Lockerby Reach OFSSA Podium!
The Lockerby Vikings achieved a double victory in local high-school boys' Volleyball, securing OFSAA A bronze in Kitchener. With a strong 3-1 record in pool play, the Vikes overcame St Mary's Salukis, ESC Mère-Téresa Jaguars, and Chatham Christian Flames, with a lone setback against Smithville Christian Academy Storm. A pivotal quarter-final win set the stage for Lockerby's final-four appearance. Despite falling short of gold against Hamilton District Christian High School, the Vikes regrouped for bronze, defeating host Rockway Mennonite Collegiate with a 25-19, 25-22, 21-25, 25-22 victory. Northern Chill U18 Subzero Takes Bronze!
In Ottawa two weekends ago, the Northern Chill 18U Subzero volleyball team played in a tournament with 24 teams. They were divided into four pools, each with six teams. The Sudbury team had mixed results in their five preliminary games.
Despite a shaky start, the Chill bounced back after losing the first set to Synergy from Scarborough, winning the second set. They continued this up-and-down pattern with 1-1 results against Storm Typhoon from Aurora and South County Bandits National from Windsor.
Their best performance came against Ottawa Fusion, winning both sets. However, they closed out the pool play with a loss to Maverick Bandits from the nation’s capital. Overall, they finished with a 5-5 record, securing fourth place in their pool and entering the Select B playoff bracket.
In the playoffs, they faced familiar rivals, the Barrie Elites, and won a close match. In the final four battle, they faced the K-W Predators and lost, settling for a bronze medal game.
