The annual SDSSAA Flag Football All-Star Game against the Laurentian Voyageurs continues to spark debate: Is it more of a celebration or a recruitment opportunity? Regardless of perspective, the event delivered an evening of excitement as high school stars showcased their talents in front of post-secondary coaches and fans alike.
The SDSSAA All-Stars opened the scoring, with Bishop Carter’s Kynlee Cresswell sprinting down the sideline for a touchdown, followed by a successful convert by Lasalle’s Kaylee Vaillancourt. Champlain’s Kelly Clark brought Laurentian within a point later in the half, hauling in a touchdown pass to keep the game tight.
As the Voyageurs pressed for the lead, they settled for a field goal by Lockerby’s Sydney Coe, shifting the score to 9-7. The Laurentian defense then dug in, preventing the high school squad from adding to their tally. Laurentian sealed the win on the game’s final play, with Lo-Ellen Alumni Maija Potvin crossing the goal line for a late touchdown, ending the game at 15-7.
The halftime festivities were a highlight of the evening, showcasing individual skills across various challenges. Winners included:
- Kayiesha Thomas (Marymount) – Longest Throw
- Lucy Brouse (Lasalle) – Longest Punt
- Barbara Ceccon (Lo-Ellen) – Longest Field Goal
- Olivia Lascelle (Lo-Ellen) – Defensive Flag Grab
- Hannah Adler (College Notre-Dame) – Fastest Sprint
The SDSSAA All-Star roster featured top talent from schools across the region, including Lasalle, Bishop Carter, Lo-Ellen, and Marymount, among others. The Voyageurs countered with their own impressive lineup, featuring standout players like Addison Elliott, Adasyn Radey, and Claire McInroy.
