The St. Benedict Bears evened their record at 1-1 with a gritty 14-3 win over the Lasalle Lancers on Friday afternoon at the James Jerome Sports Complex. Key defensive plays at the end of both halves propelled the Bears to victory.
Trailing 1-0, the Bears gained momentum late in the second quarter when linebacker Andy Snow intercepted a pass and returned it 55 yards for a touchdown, giving St. Benedict a 7-1 lead. With less than three minutes left in the game, Dylan Nelson broke free for a 45-yard touchdown run, securing the win. Mateo Bedoya converted both extra points.
Snow’s game-changing pick-six came from reading the quarterback’s short pass and reacting swiftly. "I just went to the ball, put my hands up, and hoped for the best," said Snow, reflecting on his decisive play.
The Bears’ defense was key throughout the game, forcing multiple turnovers and keeping the Lancers’ offense in check.
