Young Golfers Deliver Big Finishes at NJGT Season Finale

Young Golfers Deliver Big Finishes at NJGT Season Finale

The Northeastern Junior Golf Tour (NJGT) wrapped up its 2025 season at the Idylwylde Golf & Country Club this weekend, where junior players turned up the heat both on the course and on the leaderboard. Two days of competition under hot, humid skies crowned not just event champions, but overall season winners in multiple divisions.

The U13 boys race came down to a local showdown, with Thaddeus Quesnele making the most of home-course advantage. Celebrating his 13th birthday on Saturday, Quesnele outpaced Loucas Couture for the season title and captured the event crown with back-to-back rounds of 87 and 88.

“The key was staying calm,” said Quesnele. “If you make a bad shot, you want to get upset — but if you do, the rest of your round won’t go well.” The young golfer credited his putting as the deciding factor, noting that he’s spent countless summer hours honing pace and accuracy on the greens. “The greens here are quick, and the pins can be tough. If you can putt well at Idylwylde, you can putt well anywhere.”

Some divisions saw a split between tour and event winners. In the U19 boys category, Noah Thorpe claimed the season championship while Ayrton Longe took top honours in the weekend event. The U17 boys followed suit, with Carter Baron winning the tour and Ronan Grant winning at Idylwylde.

Others swept both titles in style. Lea Lemieux, heading to Western Michigan University this fall, owned the U19 girls division, while Patrick Wing did the same in U10 boys. The U15 boys division mirrored the split-win trend, with Cole Oulahen taking the tour title and Rory Bardswich winning at Idylwylde.

Local talent Camden Poirier also earned recognition for his strong performance at the Ontario U15 Championships last week, finishing 12th in a field of 60 with rounds of 75 and 77 at the South Muskoka Curling & Golf Club.
