The SDSSAA Senior Girls Flag Football season wrapped up with two unforgettable matchups Thursday night — both finishing with identical 20–14 scorelines and both delivering all the drama local fans could ask for.
In the “B” Division Final, the Champlain Requins edged the Macdonald-Cartier Panthères, while in the main event, the Lasalle Lancers pulled off a last-minute touchdown to defeat the Lo-Ellen Park Knights and claim their second consecutive city title.
Brouse Leads Lancers to Glory
With just over a minute left and the score tied 14–14, Lucie Brouse made the play of the night — a dazzling touchdown run that sealed the win for Lasalle. The 16-year-old standout finished with two touchdowns, including the game-winner, as the Lancers celebrated a hard-fought repeat championship.
“I’m so happy to be part of this team,” said Brouse, surrounded by her senior teammates in an emotional post-game moment. “They’re amazing people, and I’m just so proud we got to end it like this.”
Joining Brouse on the scoresheet were Yasmine Ahmed (TD) and Amelia Belland (two-point converts). The Knights responded with majors from Maddie Veevers and Isabella Perry, both converted by Abbey Dagostino.
As the game came down to the final drive, the Lancers leaned on their veteran leadership. “Izzy Roy is incredible in the huddle,” said Brouse. “She keeps everyone calm and focused — she makes sure we all know exactly what’s going on.”
Requins Rise in the B Final
Earlier in the evening, the Champlain Requins avenged last year’s silver finish by defeating the Macdonald-Cartier Panthères 20–14. A balanced attack led by Marissa McLean, Dalis Bélanger, and Émilie Beaulieu, each scoring touchdowns, powered the Requins to victory, with Malika Grenon adding a crucial two-point convert.
The Panthères battled to the end behind touchdowns from Marquise Castonguay and Callie Couillard, who also added a pair of converts.
A Season to Remember
For Lucie Brouse, who has played nearly every position since joining the program in Grade 9, Thursday’s championship night will be one to cherish. “I love playing offense,” she said. “There’s nothing like the adrenaline of running the ball, scoring, and hearing the crowd go wild — it’s the best feeling.”
With two thrilling finals, breakout performances, and a celebration of teamwork and skill, the 2025 SDSSAA flag football season ended in true Sudbury fashion — competitive, passionate, and full of heart.
An SDSSAA All-Star Game is tentatively scheduled for Monday, November 10, weather permitting, promising one more showcase for the league’s top talent.
